Summer On The Road: 14,000+ Miles In Two Months
June 15, 2018
In less than 48 hours my good friend Dimitri, his girlfriend, and I will be embarking on a road trip from Alaska that spans over 14,000 miles and two months. Our friend Teo will (hopefully) be joining us somewhere along the way. We will travel through the western territories of Canada, the Pacific Northwest, over to Virginia, across to California, and everywhere in between. This is the longest and most comprehensive trip I've ever been a part of. There are only a few locations along the way that I visited when I was younger and for the most part, each location will be an entirely new encounter. We were scheduled to leave today, however, rain storms and even snow (yes, in June) persuaded us to push our leave date to Sunday. I'm okay with waiting a few days if it means our gear isn't soaked going through the Yukon. Clear skies and warm temperatures await us over the Alaska - Canadian border.
I wanted to take this opportunity to start a blog documenting my thoughts, observations, and experiences along the way. I want this to serve as a window through which to view my mindset more clearly than with photos alone. Writing has quickly become a passion of mine and I'm working to explore its impact on not just my own experiences but also the ways in which others view them. This combination of storytelling and photography will create a more comprehensive narrative of our exploration throughout the trip.
My style of photography has evolved, since starting in 2016, to focus primarily on the broad expanse of minimal landscapes. During the summer, however, I want to highlight the smaller moments I often overlook. This blog will serve as a catalyst and home for genuine thoughts, memories, and emotions.
It's a bittersweet feeling leaving Alaska during the summer, but I know the trip will present new and challenging opportunities to push me forward creatively. I can't wait to share the people and places we discover and hope you enjoy following along. I'd love to hear your feedback throughout the trip!
